Dr. Juli Buxbaum brings an inquisitive spirit and a deep commitment to expression—through performance and pedagogy alike—to every stage and studio she enters. Juli currently serves as  the newly appointed Assistant Professor of Horn in the School of Music at the University of Central Oklahoma. There, she works with applied horn students, conducts chamber music and horn ensembles, performs in various faculty ensembles, and instructs Aural Skills.

As a dedicated pedagogue, Juli has performed and presented at conferences such as the International Women’s Brass Conference, International Horn Symposiums, Mid-South Horn Workshops, Music by Women Festival, National Association of College and Wind Percussion Instructors Conference, and the Darkwater Womxn in Music Festival. Juli co-hosted the annual Mid-South Horn Workshop at Arkansas State University in 2025 which welcomed just over 200 hornists to Jonesboro, Arkansas. Juli has also served as a clinician at colleges and secondary schools upon request, such as Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, Texas Christian University, Western Illinois University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the University of Florida, Arizona State University, and Southeast Missouri State University.

Juli is an avid chamber musician and has also served as faculty for music festivals both nationally with the Brass Institutes of America and internationally at the FIMUS Festival Internacional de Música de Campina Grande in Brazil and the Saarburger Serenaden in Germany. Juli is a founding member of Bantam Winds, a mobile woodwind ensemble with oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and horn as well as a trio for trumpet, horn, and piano called Nordestrio. These groups have commissioned many new works for chamber ensembles. Nordestrio recorded a CD celebrating all new compositions by Brazilian composers titled Braziliana that was released in Spring 2022. This album received a Silver Medal in the Global Music Awards in 2022 and was a national finalist in the Chamber Music Performance division of The American Prize Competition in 2025.

Orchestral engagements have included playing third horn with The Jackson Symphony and appearances with the Arkansas Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Wichita Symphony, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Solo accomplishments include placing as a semi-finalist in the university division of the International Horn Competition of America.

Juli received both a DMA (2018) and MM (2016) in Horn Performance from Arizona State University and holds a BM (2014) in Music Education from Oklahoma State University. Her primary teachers include Lanette Lopez-Compton and Dr. John Ericson. She previously held the position of Assistant Professor of Horn at Arkansas State University.
