2019 Composition Competition
Rules
​
Inaugurated in 2015, the goal of the FredBrass Composition Competition is to expand brass ensemble repertoire while providing festival participants with the opportunity to showcase new works. The first winner of the contest was Miami-based composer Robert Tindle, whose submission "Where Heroes Lie" was premiered by the 2015 FredBrass faculty/student ensemble in Fredericksburg, VA.
The winner of each location will receive:

A live recording of the premiere performance

Recognition in the corresponding festival programs

A contract with SoundScape Music Press to sell their composition

30% of all future sales of the composition go to the composer

Rules
The submitted material must be wholly new and written for the purposes of this competition. Arrangements, including arrangements of one's own music, will not be accepted.
Instrumentation may NOT exceed the following:

6 Trumpets (flugelhorn and piccolo trumpet available)

4 Horns in F
-
3 Trombones
-
2 Bass Trombones
-
2 Euphoniums
-
2 Tubas
The premiere of the winning piece will be performed by participants ranging in age from high school students to college graduates.
